Thursday night’s NFL matchup between the Rams and 49ers pales in comparison to the season opener between the Patriots and Chiefs in terms of appeal and betting handle.
While $1.7 million was wagered on the Patriots-Chiefs at CG Technology sports books — which has locations at The Venetian, Palazzo, M Resort and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, among others — only $200,000 had been bet on the Rams-49ers as of Thursday afternoon, according to CG Technology sports book vice president Matt Holt.
“We usually do a huge handle on Thursday Night Football, but not that much money is being bet on tonight’s game,” Holt said. “The biggest bet we took is $50,000 on the Rams on the money line.”
Visiting Los Angeles (1-1) is a consensus 3-point favorite at Las Vegas sports books after the line opened at 2½. The total is 40.
The Rams had the good fortune of opening their season against the lowly Colts (0-2), while the 49ers (0-2) lost to the Panthers and Seahawks.
San Francisco, which has won and covered the past three meetings with the Rams, has yet to score a touchdown this season. But Holt said sharp money has been on the Niners getting 3 points.
“The public is all on the Rams,” Holt said. “Seven times as much on the Rams.”
The Rams are 0-8-1 against the spread in their past nine vs. the NFC and 2-6 ATS in their past eight meetings with San Francisco.
The under is 5-2 in the past seven meetings between the teams, 8-2 in the past 10 Thursday night games and 21-8 in the Niners’ past 29 games.
