Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, October 30
October 30, 2014 - 12:17 am
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Flat Gone – Key is Kent Desormeaux riding for brother Keith; they win a lot of races together, signals intent.
1 Counting Days – Ran an improved race first off the claim by Vladimir Cerin; should like the softer pace around 2-turns.
Long Shot – 2 Expo and Fig
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
7 Newfound Gold – Ran one of his better races winning last time out; if he repeats that the rest are running for second.
4 Xuang Feng – Claimed by Ted West and spotted nicely to win; he excels at Santa Anita so factor that in.
Long Shot – 6 Peacenik
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
10 Raspberry Ala Mode – Hector Palma got away with one last time for $20K; he is protected today and draws nicely to stalk the early pace.
3 Kings Adventure – His last two starts show some major development; his better races were on turf and synthetics.
Long Shot – 2 Athens
Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
12 Vavoom – Must draw in off the also eligible, but if he does he’s is clearly the one to beat; speed to lead pillar to post.
6 Cotton Valley – Hard trying horse has some back speed figures to menace late; last four starts have been at a main track mile.
Long Shot – 11 Fast Mast
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
11 Rossi Reserve – Claimed by Bill Spawr last April off a big win; might be a red flag from some barns, but not this one.
2 Jetbird – May have been overmatched in last for $16K; drops back in for $8K where these are her friends.
Long Shot – 3 Puttybadshark
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Promotional – Your edge over me is seeing the tote action on all of the FTS; Tom Proctor has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor.
6 Scattagirl – Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano liked what he saw; Leonard Powell is one of those under the radar trainers.
Long Shot – 8 Jaded Glory
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Pressure Time – Before Kent Desormeaux was injured, he was cruising along with trainer Bob Hess; finally the two are reunited here.
9 Memphis – I keep rooting for him because Iggy Puglisi rides him; always seems to get going a stride late, 7-furlongs will help today.
Long Shot – 8 Indian Classic
Race 8 – 1 mile, $75,000 Big Bear, 3-year-olds and up
8 Regally Ready – Has limited main track experience, but both races were very good; could not be any sharper right now.
6 Stryker Phd – Excellent dirt form even if it comes from Emerald Downs; likes to sit in arrears and make one late brush.
Long Shot – 4 Blueskiesnrainbows
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Heat Trap – Is a proven lover of the downhill turf course; when you like the hill, it tends to stay with you forever.
10 Come To Heel – Been away a full year; returns for Wesley Ward who rarely sends out a short horse, like the parking lot post too.
Long Shot – 1 Go West Marie
Race 10 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
12 Kat’s Hurricane – Rafael Bejarano takes over for the money shot; he’s riding a couple for Leonard Powell so they must be live.
14 Really a Princess – Must draw in from the also eligible list; did everything but win last out racing first time for a price tag.
Long Shot – 11 Exfanofsixties
Best Bet – 10 Raspberry Ala Mode (race 3)
Santa Anita Wednesday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$23.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$20.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.40
Santa Anita Totals – 355/85/$527.60; Long Shots, 175/27/$302.40; Best Bets, 21/11/$43.20
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #1-1A entry Tradesman/Frosted in race 1 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Wednesday, Glickman ran third at Belmont Park paying $2.70 to show. Stats – 167/98/$921.00; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
