Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Oct. 11
October 10, 2013 - 10:44 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Big Wags – His win two back at Del Mar is fast enough to beat these, if repeated; live Bill Spawr barn too.
5 Smokin’ Cat – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much in this slowpoke field.
Long Shot – 6 Go to the Pulpit
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
5 Behind the Bossman – Has been a beaten favorite two races in a row; classic underachiever drops way down in class.
3 Lieutenant Seany O – Eric Guillot is a part of my weekly column today; this one exits Saratoga for Arcadia.
Long Shot – 4 Golden Dynamo
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
8 Kill Shot – Unlucky to lose both career starts; has run fast speed figures and should be double tough in here.
2 Sidepocket Champ – Good effort in a well bet career debut; no one rides the engine like P Val.
Long Shot – 6 Dreamnofatticus
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Blues and Silvers – Outside parking lot posts are good for going down the hillside course; speed to lead or stalk.
11 Ricspretentiousgal – Claimed by John Sadler from the good Ron Ellis barn; is placed where she has been competitive before.
Long Shot – 3 Camryn Kate
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Starry Shark – Showed good speed last out at Fairplex; if you recall, speed was not holding up as well during the meet.
12 Alsace – The fact that he has finished second twice makes him a standout with these; tough finale to the pick 5.
Long Shot – 1 Grand Gambler
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $41,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
5 Under Review – When you can’t beat ‘em, drop ‘em; after two more losses at $80K price tag, tries softer $50K foes.
6 This One’s for Mel – Has cashed four paychecks since shipping in from South Florida; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot – 3 Democrat Duck
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Appealing Resume – Exits a win but still gets a rider switch to Rafael Bejarano; her style is to sit and make one brush.
8 Addendum – Gritty win in first race off the claim by Vladimir Cerin; class rise to face foes he’s pretty familiar with.
Long Shot – 9 Elvies Lane
Race 8 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Mum’s Truckee – Note that Garrett Gomez took off his mounts yesterday and today; Peter Miller barn is starting to heat up.
4 Marcyjane – Has won two close photos finishes with Julien Leparoux riding; like to sit in arrears and make one run.
Long Shot – 6 Demonsterous
Race 9 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
1 Rushomatic – You say you want big, well matched fields, well here you go; if you can figure this one out you’ll be rewarded.
9 Katy’s Cookin – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much in this scrum.
Long Shot – 7 Browsing
