Post Time 10:05 a.m.
Race 1 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Sprint Preview, Fillies, 2-year-olds
1 Bares Tripper – Draw a line thru the pop and stop race last out on turf; her race two back is fast enough to bury these.
3 Truly Marie – Tries dirt for the first time; Joel Rosario has teamed up with John Sadler for many, many victories.
Long Shot – 6 Sultry Season
Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $100,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview, 2-year-olds
12 Mico Margarita – Really liked her turf sprint at Saratoga in debut; outside posts down the hill are better than inside posts.
2 Upward Spiral – Euro invader has had some tough trips in her brief career; like the choice of pilot here, Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot – 10 Den’s Legacy
Race 3 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Damascus, 3-year-olds
4 Mile High Magic – Reunited with Rafael Bejarano after two tough losses; tactical speed to lead or follow up close.
3 Politicallycorrect – Has shipped all over the country to run; first trip to SoCal, but he doesn’t need his racetrack to win.
Long Shot – 7 Sir Bond
Race 4 – 1 mile (turf), $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, 2-year-olds
6 Dundonnell – The Euros, who run Lasix free, should have an edge in the 2-YO turf races; been heavily favored 3 straight races.
2 Artigiano – Has had some trouble trips or would have a better resume; offers strong value at 8/1 odds.
Long Shot – 8 Balance the Books
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Groupie Doll – May be the shortest odds of any BC favorite; will be a single on many pick 6 tickets.
6 Turbulent Descent – Ran poorly in last at Belmont which will help her odds here; can see a rebound at a square price.
Long Shot – 10 Switch
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, $1.5-million Breeders’ Cup Sprint, 3-year-olds and up
5 Fed Biz – I’m banking on Bob Baffert having a big BC weekend; big edge for horse training great and stabled at Santa Anita.
6 Shackleford – Hickory colt may have one more good one left; he is a grinder type who runs hard every step of the way.
Long Shot – 7 Emcee
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $1-million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, 3-year-olds and up
10 Corporate Jungle – If you follow me regularly, you know I like cut back horses; should be rallying fastest of all in the lane.
9 Bridgetown – Proven commodity in turf sprints; only concern is 6 1/2 furlongs is not his best distance.
Long Shot – 3 Great Mills
Race 8 – 1 mile, $1-million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, 3-year-olds and up
4 Shanghai Bobby – Will Todd Pletcher and Rosie Napravnik win 2 BC races together; has yet to be tested in 4 straight wins.
9 Power Broker – Broke thru with a huge win in the Frontrunner; if he repeats that race he’ll be double tough tonight.
Long Shot – 6 Dynamic Sky
Race 9 – 1 1/2 miles (turf), $3-million Breeders’ Cup Turf, 3-year-olds and up
5 Shareta – The Euros typically have a big edge in BC turf stakes; draw a line thru a poor try in the Arc de Triomphe.
1 Point of Entry – Has an outside shot for Horse of the Year if he can win; clearly the best turf horse based in the U.S.
Long Shot – 12 Trailblazer
Race 10 – 1 1/16th miles, $2-million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, 2-year-olds
11 Amazombie – Was a short horse last time out; Bill Spawr will have the screws tightened for a max effort to defend his title.
4 Coil – Underrated colt in the Bob Baffert barn; runs much better with blinkers on, he is stabled and trains at Santa Anita.
Long Shot – 8 Capital Account
Race 11 – 1 mile (turf), $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile, 3-year-olds and up
6 Excelebration – If it weren’t for Frankel, he would receive the accolades; this is a top class racehorse, the one to beat.
2 Wise Dan – A win could garner him the Horse of the Year crown; key is this is the toughest field he’ll have ever faced.
Long Shot – 9 Moonlight Cloud
Race 12 – 1 1/4 miles, $5-million Breeders’ Cup Classic, 3-year-olds and up
5 Game On Dude – Is 5-for-5 wins at Santa Anita; I expect Bob Baffert to have a huge BC weekend, can be the icing on the cake.
11 Mucho Macho Man – Been pointed to this race all year by Kathy Ritvo; 8/1 is enormous value for a top class racehorse.
Long Shot – 10 Ron the Greek
Best Bet – 9 Groupie Doll (race 5)
Santa Anita Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/2/$9.20; Long Shots, 9/2/$33.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals – 376/86/$625.60; Long Shots, 189/34/$386.60; Best Bets, 22/6/$117.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #2 Joyful Victory (4/1) in race 9 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Neck ‘N Neck won at Churchill Downs paying $5.40 to win, $3.00 to place and $2.60 to show. Stats – 163/112/$990.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
