TODAY AT SANTA ANITA Park
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Van Brit – Sight unseen since a game Del Mar win; she clearly fits in this $32K class, tactical speed to sit a trip.
1 Ambitoness – Claimed by Bob Hess off a gritty victory; bumped up aggressively in class, she is razor sharp right now.
Long Shot – 3 Eyes On the Prize
Race 2 – 1 mile, $65,000 Palm Springs Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Awesomemundo – Looks like the Bob Baffert invitational; last seen winning the DuPont Distaff at Pimlico on Preakness weekend.
4 May Day Rose – Been away 10-months but finds a good spot for return; graded stakes winner should run well fresh.
Long Shot – 5 Lady of Fifty
Race 3 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
14 Secret Memo – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low class; taking the blinkers off for this.
5 Hot List – FTS exits a bullet workout for Kathy Walsh; field is so poor, the FTS must be respected.
Long Shot – 10 Derby Hat
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
9 Dynamic Diva – Second start off the claim by Emily Mode; figures to get ignored as low percentage connections.
4 Roll Your Eyes – Has a solid dirt resume despite recent failures; takes a solid class rise that can only help.
Long Shot – 6 Pumpkin Pie
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $47,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Citizenship – Showed nice improvement when switched to the turf; more Bob Baffert firepower leading up to the Breeders’ Cup.
5 Solar Eclipse – Short distance behind Citizenship last time out; can improve in second start off a 3-month hiatus.
Long Shot – 9 Jubilant Girl
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
9 Free Time – Has a lot of back class to compete in this group; this is clearly the toughest race on the card.
12 Unex Dali – Like the equipment change of first time gelding; sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low level.
Long Shot – 3 Rio Good
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Acenda – Second to a very talented filly in Vionnet; like her tactical speed with the turf rail out 15 feet.
4 Elana Mar – Second start off a 3-month hiatus; has more tactical speed than showed in her last start.
Long Shot – 3 Quaintly
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
10 Green Team – Beaten favorite ran OK when third last time; Joe Talamo has a knack for winning the last race of the day.
2 Spit Ball – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; facing the slowest field of his life.
Long Shot – 11 Unusual Mystery
Best Bet – 14 Secret Memo (race 3)
