Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, July 11
July 10, 2015 - 5:39 pm
Post Time 2:15 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Celtic Moon – If you can draw a line thru his last race, his resume looks OK; Peter Miller taking the blinkers off tonight.
2 Warren’s Rail Bird – Sprinter stretching out should guarantee he’ll be forwardly placed; I always like betting Tiago Pereira.
Long Shot – 3 Pioneer Charlie
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
3 Annie’s Candy – Two frustrating losses despite running races good enough to win; looks to be a very short priced chalk to graduate.
4 Nuke Laloosh – FTS from the highly regarded Peter Miller barn; your edge will be in seeing the tote board action on this colt.
Long Shot – 1 Clude
Race 3 – 5 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Caliente Cat – Despite this being an abbreviated sprint, this one is stretching out; good tactical speed to lead or follow close up.
6 Soul Crusher – Recent graduate runs best when taken back to make one late run; Mario Gutierrez doesn’t mind those tactics either.
Long Shot – 5 Councilman
Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Don’t Tell Jackie – Doug O’Neill very quietly has been tearing them up this meet; 9 starters, barn has 4 winners and 3 seconds.
6 Tumbleweedprincess – Bore out badly in last and was pulled up; some bettors, like me, like to use horses with bad a trouble line.
Long Shot – 5 Seaside Fantasy
Race 5 – 5 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Take Me to Church – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Joe Talamo staying sharp for Del Mar.
3 One Bye Two – Another taking a drop from MSW to maiden claiming; hard to get excited about a horse than just ran a single digit Beyer.
Long Shot – 5 Little Like Ana
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Haaay Sexy Lady – Claimed by Steve Miyadi off a sharp win 7 days ago; is wheeled right back in a very winable spot.
2 Smooth Talker – Been dealing with Quarterhorses of late; exits a sharp 5-length victory, but these will be tougher tonight.
Long Shot – 3 Tough Annie
Race 7 – 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Zuzu’s Petals – Tiny edge in a very difficult heat; sprinter stretching out, I couldn’t find a horse to eliminate.
5 True History – Sometimes when all horses look the same, I handicap the trainers; can rarely go wrong by including Ron Ellis.
Long Shot – 8 Watdifrenzdzitmake
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, $200,000 Great Lady M, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Sunday Rules – She is unbeaten in 5 career starts; has been managed beautifully by the late Mike Mitchell and now Philip D’Amato.
7 Warren’s Veneda – If a hot pace develops between Sunday Rules and Fantastic Style, Joe Talamo won’t mind; sits a trip and rallies late.
Long Shot – 6 Fantastic Style
Race 9 – 5 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Pax Tecum – Got one of the worst rides in racing history last time; needs to repeat the race and stay straight for veteran Aaron Gryder.
4 Not Enough Eddie – Tepid chalk was claimed and voided, so he returns to Doug O’Neill; barn is running hot here at Los Alamitos.
Long Shot – 6 Land of the Free
Best Bet – 3 Annie’s Candy (race 2)
Los Alamitos Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$28.40; Long Shots, 7/1/$19.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Los Alamitos Totals – 94/28/$174.60; Long Shots, 47/5/$53.60; Best Bets, 6/4/$12.20
