TODAY AT hollywood PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Prime Number – Taking a steep class drop after an awful effort; his race two back, if repeated, can beat these.
3 One World – Also taking a big class drop; John Shirreffs left his second string here after moving stable to Belmont Park.
Long Shot – 2 Valentine Boy
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Streets of Heaven – Third start off the claim by Richard Baltas; enough back class to run a winning race today.
7 Our Boy Benjamin – Barn switch to Vladimir Cerin; huge class drop, may be waving the white flag of surrender.
Long Shot – 6 Quindici Man
Race 3 – 5 furlongs, $70,000 Time to Love, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Teddy’s Promise – Had to skip a stakes run due to a bruise; returns in a softer spot to make sure he’s 100 percent.
2 Shumoos – Was well bet in the grade 1 Madison and ran a cropper; this is a confidence builder, a much easier spot.
Long Shot – 6 Magical Band
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 R Doubleday – Last time he ran for this level he won, and easily; tactical speed to sit a decent trip.
3 No Tricks for Jack – Drops back in class to face his friends; FYI Phillip D’Amato is the assistant to Mike Mitchell.
Long Shot – 2 Warrens Venedalucy
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
1 I’m Wide Awake – Taking a big class rise facing winners for the first time; like his turf experience.
2 The Whole Deal – Gutsy win on turf last time; his 3 career wins makes him the one to beat in this spot.
Long Shot – 3 Laugh At Life
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
2 Imperial Fortune – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one gets Rafael Bejarano to ride.
10 Everton – This other Baffert is favored; how many times have you seen the longer price horse win.
Long Shot – 4 Drover Crazy
Race 7 – 1 3/16th miles (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
5 Apostle Paul – When a top jockey rides for a small barn, that jumps off the page; watch the tote board for clues.
8 Incentivize – Leap of faith that Garrett Gomez is jumping on a live one; ran for $40K last time, now up for MSW class.
Long Shot – 4 Niagara Falls
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Gallant Fields – New York invader ran evenly in a test drive SoCal debut; expect a stronger effort tonight.
3 Patriot’s Voyage – Bob Baffert didn’t run in the Kentucky Derby; but he’s got one here and he’ll keep winning.
Long Shot – 4 Golden Itiz
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 My Pal Ariana – Claimed by Kristin Mulhall; cuts back in distance where she should be running on late.
2 Tiz Anna – Ran a career topper in last while second best; like the subtle cut back in distance.
Long Shot – 6 Hedy
Best Bet – 3 Teddy’s Promise (race 3)
