TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
3 Wellington Beauty – Claimed by Peter Miller and dropped down in class; his barn has been scorching this meet.
4 Jesse’s Giacomo – Doug O’Neill trains 40 percent of this field; big class drop offers Saul Arias a big shot to win.
Long Shot – 2 It’s Aine
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $26,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up,
2 Ever Alert – Has the look of lone early speed in here; more early heat from white hot Adam Kitchingman barn.
3 Mr T Bird – Big trainer switch to Mike Pupye; first start for the new barn is at a greatly reduced price tag.
Long Shot – 4 Warren’s Big Cat
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
6 Justa Runner – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one is from the powerful Zayat Stables.
5 Syndicated – Like the cut back in distance from route to sprint; figures to sit a trip and finish well late.
Long Shot – 2 Ranulf
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Flashy Delight – Claimed by Peter Miller and dropped in class; she has beaten better than these in the recent past.
1 Rossi Reserve – Slow win in sundial time last out; hugs the rail and is capable of running better, faster.
Long Shot – 8 Warren’s Morgan
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $54,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
4 Dixieland Blues – Big rider switch to Garrett Gomez for the money shot; been unlucky to win only 1-of-9 grass starts.
1 U’narack – Will be able to save all the ground inside; Unusual Heat get love the turf.
Long Shot – 8 Mr. Ornery
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Here’s To Rose – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one is dropping from MSW to maiden claiming.
7 Holiday N Newport – Ran well in debut to be second; I thought is a negative that she was not protected today after good debut.
Long Shot – 2 Another Sky
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Twelve Folds – Turf has not been her best surface; much better on synthetics and main dirt track.
5 Rowdy Gal – John Sadler drops her in class in search of a win; excellent 3-of-4 win resume over synthetics.
Long Shot – 1 Sassy Suances
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 L L Cool Jo – Kayla Stra lost her whip at a key point in the race last time; suspect she’ll offer good value again.
1 Dow Diva – Has the looks of a speed from the rail type; Edwin Maldonado shows no signs of slowing down.
Long Shot – 5 Coconut Cream Pie
Best Bet – 6 Justa Runner (race 3)
Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$23.60; Long Shots, 7/2/$32.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.40
Hollywood Park Totals – 370/97/$625.60; Long Shots, 178/23/$252.20; Best Bets, 21/7/$33.80
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #2 Anaphylaxis (5/2) in race 3 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, South Shore ran out at Belmont Park. Stats – 87/55/$409.10; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
