TODAY AT hollywood PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $54,000, Allowance $54,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Ondine – Facing winners for the first time is always a big step up; like that she won while running a lower Beyer figure.
4 Black Witch – Was overmatched in the grade 1 Oaks so draw a line thru it; her race two back, if repeated, can win today.
Long Shot – 3 Branding
Race 2 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
8 Brother Pete – Gave a good account of himself in career debut; tough parking lot post, but figures to improve for John Sadler.
6 Concorde – Interesting Oaklawn Park shipper for Cody Autrey; suspect he brought stronger stock than the last invasion.
Long Shot – 1 Pirate’s Pleasure
Race 3 – 7 furlongs, $70,000 Came Home, 3-year-olds
3 Treasury Bill – Lost all chance in the Rebel after an awful start; was wrapped up by Joe Talamo, fresh start right here.
1 Let Em Shine – Adam Kitchingman speedball earned his stakes stripes today; simple tactics of go as fast and as far as he can.
Long Shot – 2 Belvin
Race 4 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Mr. Make Believe – Tepid chalk has run consistently since claimed by Doug O’Neill; these are clearly his friends.
4 Slammer Time – Was making a winning move in last when flattened out late; slow works since but can improve.
Long Shot – 5 Passing Game
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Catquest – Speedball tactics could work with this group;; Edwin Maldonado is still difficult to pass in the stretch.
10 Prime Number – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low price tag; not many more pegs to drop than this.
Long Shot – 3 Broadway Nika
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Senorita, Fillies, 3-year-olds
8 Scarlet Strike – Perfect ride by Rafael Bejarano to win the Providencia; cuts back in distance, but a mile should suit.
1 Lilbourne Eliza – Did everything but win in her U.S. debut; draws to rail to utilize her speed and save ground.
Long Shot – 5 Sweet Red Cat
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
2 Stormin Lute – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; this one is by Midnight Lute, a white hot stallion.
7 Major Affair – His races at 1-turn are a lot better than his lone 2-turn try; figures to sit in arrears and make one brush.
Long Shot – 8 Syndicated
Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
7 Sirocco Strike – Ran creditably in the San Simeon won by uncoupled entry Chips All In; Jeff Mullins off to a good start.
2 No Silent – Dead late closer should see a wicked pace to close into; Rafael Bejarano is rarely a long shot play.
Long Shot – 5 Innocent Man
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Billy Win – Rushed into the lead after a poor start in debut; ran well and almost held on, expect improvement.
2 Dark Timbers – You always get a square price when Kayla Stra rides; she is far from the worst jock in the colony.
Long Shot – 1 J Man
Best Bet – 3 Treasury Bill (race 3)
Hollywood Park Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$34.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$9.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals – 166/45/$293.60; Long Shots, 79/9/$85.40; Best Bets, 9/3/$8.80
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #7 Stage Street (2/1) in race 5 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
