Horse Racing: Today at Hollywood Park, May 10

today at Hollywood park

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $26,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Arcodoro – Claimed by Peter Miller and spotted nicely to win first out; speedball among a tiny field of foes.

2 Cook Inlet – Has been more productive since gelded some time back; claimed by Linda Mikus, Rafael Bejarano remains loyal.

Long Shot – 5 World Renowned

Race 2 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Racy Rosa – Claimed by Joshua Litt and cut back in distance from 2-turn route to elongated sprint; like the strategy.

5 Rossi Reserve – Speedball runs hard every time for Vann Belvoir; chalk in an evenly matched bunch.

Long Shot – 3 Plazarita

Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

4 Follini – Was overmatched in the Echo Eddie last time; his MSW win was fast and, if repeated, good enough to upset these.

8 Dreamnofatticus – FTS from Gary Mandella, need not be much with these; leap of faith with Rafael Bejarano up.

Long Shot – 5 Tribal Dude

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Gloryandprayer – Steve Knapp has jumped off to a good start this meet; he is stabled in Inglewood, which is always a benefit.

5 Jesse’s Giacomo – Like Doug O’Neill for giving lesser jocks a shot; Saul Arias rides this race like it’s his Kentucky Derby.

Long Shot – 6 Acute

Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $54,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

2 U S Citizen – Marty Jones is bringing a lot of horses off the bench early in the meet; he is stabled at Hollywood Park too.

5 Zuboff – Mike Pupye is another trainer off to a hot start this meet; he too is stabled year round in Inglewood.

Long Shot – 1 My Samurai Warrior

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Cast a Doubt – Ron Ellis found a spot to come off the bench and is claim proof; blinkers off, expect a tight effort.

5 Colossians – This is Bob Baffert’s only horse on the card; FTS for a price tag dampers a little of my enthusiasm.

Long Shot – 1 Tizaplayer

Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Half Strike – Parking lot post with a short run to the first turn; if he can overcome that, the rest may be easy.

5 Call Me Kelly – Has run in the money in 9 of 13 starts, so he is a trier; has tactical speed to sit a decent trip.

Long Shot – 2 Fast Track

Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

8 U’narack – Sight unseen since a solid second in career debut at Del Mar; Julien Leparoux takes the call for this.

1 Heat Flash – Was slow early, fast late on the grass in last; saves all the ground inside and should be flying late.

Long Shot – 7 Troy Story

Best Bet – 3 Cast a Doubt (race 6)

Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$29.00; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80

Hollywood Park Totals – 150/39/$258.80; Long Shots, 71/8/$76.20; Best Bets, 8/3/$8.80

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #3 Take Interest (9/5) in race 5 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Get Real won at Churchill Downs paying $6.60 to win, $3.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Stats – 74/50/$371.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
