Horse racing: Today at Hollywood Park, July 14

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

5 Bert’s Altarcation – Tepid chalk in a race full of questions; exits a bullet workout which could provide a clue.

1 Swiss Bliss – Ran OK for this kind in last; saves all the ground, will be grinding it out late.

Long Shot – 4 Resisting Arrest

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, $150,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship

6 Amarish – He was no secret as a heavy favorite in both career starts, and wins; has enough pedigree to win around 2-turns.

1 Dirty Swagg – Interesting to see Garrett Gomez on this big long shot; he rode him in a green debut where he closed strongly.

Long Shot – 5 Scherer Magic

Race 3 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 Sky Cape – Won at this class level two races ago; has good tactical speed to sit where Eswan Flores wants him to.

7 Jairzihno – Parking lot post, but he prefers to take back anyway; not big on winning but cashes a lot of paychecks.

Long Shot – 1 Street Car

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, $150,000 Landaluce, Fillies, 2-year-olds

6 Executiveprivilege – Sharp looking first time winner; broke dead last, worked her way forward and won in hand, impressive.

3 Miss Empire – Peter Miller has an uncoupled entry; this one won the Cinderella sprint, by Empire Maker, she can go further.

Long Shot – 7 Speedinthruthecity

Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 Devgru – Has run two good races without winning; draws the rail where saving all the ground should help him.

8 A. P. Corsair – Showed good early speed in last before tiring late; should appreciate the cut back in distance today.

Long Shot – 4 Officer Bavetta

Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $55,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

4 Alley Hondro – Ran like a short horse last time off a 10-month hiatus; suspect he can wake up in a big way in an evenly matched field.

5 Fire With Fire – Tepid chalk in a very difficult heat; all of his best racing have come on the greensward.

Long Shot – 1 Cyclometer

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

1 Propero – I typically don’t like horses that just graduated, but I’ll make exceptions; Mike Mitchell filly, speed on the rail.

7 Bila Shaka – Been away a full year; key vote is Rafael Bejarano riding, he figures to be the king with Joel Rosario gone.

Long Shot – 11 Ghost N Your Heart

Race 8 – 1 1/4 miles (turf), $350,000 American Oaks, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Lady of Shamrock – Missed by a dirty nostril in last or she would have won 3 straight; gets reunited with Mike Smith today.

9 Colonial Flag – Shippers have done well in the American Oaks in the past; Michael Matz doesn’t come out west unless he’s loaded.

Long Shot – 7 Miss Cato

Race 9 – 7 furlongs, $200,000 A Gleam Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 Sugarinthemorning – Like the turn back in distance in what should be a wicked early pace; she will be flying late on the outside.

7 Izzy Rules – This is the quickest mare in the field; key is to pop the gate and play catch me if you can.

Long Shot – 5 Teddy’s Promise

Race 10 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 Jammin Lady Louli – FTS from Mike Pupye; key vote is from Rafael Bejarano, he figures to have his pick of the litter.

4 Maurie’s Tizzy – Another FTS, this one from Marty Jones; should get value with Joe Steiner, watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot – 6 Puff Pastry

Best Bet – 6 Executiveprivilege (race 4)

Betfair Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/7/$37.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
