Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, November 15
November 14, 2014 - 9:16 pm
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Fascinating – Was a ridiculous 1/2 odds in return from a year layoff; needed the start and should go a lot better tonight.
1 See Through – After four starts, all on turf, is switched to synthetics; the transfer should work out OK.
Long Shot – 6 Sky Mega
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 My Monet – Did everything but win last time in a big effort; has one turf start, but trying synthetics for the first time.
4 Smoove It – Was flying too late down the hill in last; has had success on the synthetics so he should go well again.
Long Shot – 5 Seeking Shamrocks
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 2-year-olds
6 Oh Newman – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this new low; from the sharp Philip D’Amato barn, expect improvement.
1 Mr. Chase – I like the rail post in a 2-turn mile; chance to save ground with little energy lost, can make a difference in the stretch.
Long Shot – 10 Dynamite Ride
Race 4 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
9 Dylan Ward – Dangerous looking ship and win candidate; suspect the horses he faced at Keeneland are better than this field.
11 Wicked Finance – Has had 7 chances on turf without winning; been a nibbler but has run in the money four times.
Long Shot – 6 J Serino
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Memphis – If you saw his last race, he showed the kind of lacking since he was a pup; similar race could crush there, again.
6 Tribal Dude – Found a group he could dominate last time out; he does not need the lead to succeed, so expect a patient ride.
Long Shot – 4 Industry Leader
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
8 Miss Centerfold – Of the ones with experience, I like her best; typical green debut, slow early but fast late.
3 Longstocking – For those who don’t recognize trainer Michael McCarthy, he was a long time assistant to top trainer Todd Pletcher.
Long Shot – 6 Avenge
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Husband’s Folly – Tepid choice in the hardest race on the card; we’ll be halfway thru a Pick 6 carryover of $147K.
10 Macho Sox – Chance to upset in the most competitive race on the card; big rider switch to Gary Stevens for the money shot.
Long Shot – 2 Toledo Eddie
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Bob Hope, 2-year-olds
6 Alright Alright – Ran a ridiculously good race from post 12 in debut; now comes the hard part, is he really this good?
4 Prime Engine – Could this private purchase be Shared Belief 2; looked like any kind versus overmatched foes at Emerald Downs.
Long Shot – 9 St. Joe Bay
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Hadfunlastnight – Second start off the claim by Victor Garcia; he was in tough last time, these are clearly his friends.
12 Regally Soul – Ran a big race over synthetics this summer at Del Mar; if he can repeat that he’ll have a puncher’s chance to upset.
Long Shot – 6 Ranulf
Best Bet – 3 Fascinating (race 1)
Del Mar Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$27.60; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals – 85/21/$131.00; Long Shots, 41/4/$44.20; Best Bets, 5/1/$5.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #4 Lady Marian (3/1) in race 2 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Come Around ran out at Aqueduct. Stats – 176/105/$953.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
