Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, Nov. 6

Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $53,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Optimism And Hope – Gets class relief from two stakes for this first level condition; trainer Philip D’Amato has an uncoupled entry and this one looks stronger.
3 Riri – Other half of the uncoupled entry from trainer Philip D’Amato; was very sharp in debut MSW win down the hill at Santa Anita, stretches out tonight.
Long Shot – 1 Magnolias in Bloom
Race 2 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Zuzu’s Petals – No question her dirt resume is a lot better, faster than her grass races; this is a good spot for her to kick it in late and steal the verdict.
2 Rock N Bunny – Exits a pair of turf sprints for the main dirt track; she has a dirt resume strong enough to beat these for fun on her best.
Long Shot – 4 Bar Car
Race 3 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $28,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
7 Aren Vaughn – FTS has been working bullets for trainer Richard Baltas; like that he hired main man Rafeal Bejarano, the ones with experience don’t look very fast.
2 Silver Summer – Ran the best race of his life last time when in for a $40K price tag; start of the Pick 6 with a carryover of 439K.
Long Shot – 1 The Bench Rules
Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $53,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
6 Avanti Bello – His last two races have been really good compared to his turf tries; sometimes a trainer has to find the niche for the horse and this one likes routes.
2 Storm Comin Thru – Trainer Doug O’Neill has an uncoupled entry and both look good in this spot; figures to sit a trip and come running late for Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot – 7 Roman Tizzy
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Blondy’s Reward – Chance to upset the apple cart in the last leg of the Pick 5; Rafael Bejarano should be able to find a nice ground saving trip.
11 Housemaker – Started slowly but finished well in first race off the claim by trainer Eddie Truman; she must overcome a parking lot post, but has no early speed.
Long Shot – 10 Tiz a Classy Lass
Race 6 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Lucky Reality – Claimed by trainer Steve Miyadi off a sharp second in this same low class; legs up leading Golden Gate apprentice David Lopez who moved his tack south.
7 Kronwall – Showed a lot more early speed in last in a much improved effort; might want to stalk the favorite and make it a match race turning for home.
Long Shot – 5 Extra Lucky
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
4 Poshsky – Gets some class relief after tackling tougher most of this summer; has shown a fondness for Del Mar sod so a chance to wake up for a square price.
10 Horizontalyspeakin – Claimed by trainer Richard Baltas off two wins in a row; has won seven times of turf, has speed to lead or sit just off the early leaders.
Long Shot – 1 Chiropractor
Race 8 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Secret Chords – Been away a year, but showed high early speed in debut; if she has been working OK, she could be lone early speed tonight, the best bet in horse racing.
6 Miss Bliss – Tepid chalk woke up last time running first time for a price tag; lost by a neck, but beat the third horse by 9-lengths, so she ran a winning race.
Long Shot – 1 Silver Score
Best Bet – 4 Lucky Reality (race 6)
Del Mar Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$25.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals – 83/23/$124.80; Long Shots, 41/3/$27.40; Best Bets, 5/2/$5.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #4 Star of New York (7/2) in race 8 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Hogy won at Churchill Downs paying $3.20 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 show. Stats – 164/109/$824.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
