Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, Nov. 1

Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Wild Street Party – Has done everything right so far in winning both of her career starts; trainer Steve Miyadi drops her down the $8K after winning for $12,500.
2 Sugar Spice – Tepid chalk in an open opener at Del Mar; best races are speed efforts and she has found her knack at this bottom $8K level.
Long Shot – 3 Lust for Life
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Iron Fist – Ran a superb second to Frosted in the Pennsylvania Derby; the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer adding blinkers on, with his speed he could be long gone.
6 Sammy Mandeville – Dead late closer will have to hope for the best that the chalky favorite will back up late; you can’t change a leopards spots at this point.
Long Shot – 3 Solid Wager
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 12 feet), Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 At Ease – You can draw a line thru last, a poor race over the dirt in a surface switch race; he returns to grass where he has run two decent efforts already.
3 Heat – If you know trainer Barry Abrams barn, you know he has lots of Unusual Heat horses that run well on grass; this one made a nice run down the hillside turf course.
Long Shot – 5 Ace Deuce
Race 4 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $52,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
1 Coppa – FTS from trainer Philip D’Amato barn; has been working well and has good turf pedigree, watch the tote board for additional clues.
4 Andiamo – You have a big edge over me in seeing the tote action on the five FTS in the field; trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor.
Long Shot – 7 All in the Proof
Race 5 – 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 12 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Pepnic – Won his lone turf sprint start at Del Mar, has not fared so well down the Arcadia hillside turf course; dead late closer must overcome a parking lot post.
5 Chips All In – Has run well finishing in the money in 5 of 6 Del Mar turf races; key is he hasn’t won any them, but he’s always charging hard late.
Long Shot – 3 Second Proposal
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Pippapy – Has been claimed in three straight starts so that should tell you something about his perceived value; trainer Kristin Mulhall just had him gelded too.
5 Warren My Boy – Chance to show a lot of early speed and try to bottom out this field; there is no early pace in here, so that may be his best chance to win.
Long Shot – 4 Anda
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 12 feet), $200,000 Goldikova, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Elektrum – For those playing the Pick 6 carryover of $59K, this may be a single for some punters; she had a chance to chase bigger fish at Keeneland, opted to stay home.
2 Stormy Lucy – My three choices all have experience running in stakes versus one another; Corey Nakatani remains one of the best turf riders in the world.
Long Shot – 3 Queen of The Sand
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Hide My Heart – Won well first race off the claim by trainer Art Sherman; this is clearly her comfort level so I expect another good effort in the finale.
7 Abets Abet – Trainer Bill Spawr is one of the best trainer in SoCal who doesn’t get a lot of pub; he drops this filly down to give her the best chance to win a race.
Long Shot – 8 Ipray
Best Bet – 2 Iron Fist (race 2)
Del Mar Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/3/$19.60; Long Shots, 9/1/$7.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals – 52/14/$73.40; Long Shots, 26/2/$19.00; Best Bets, 3/1/$3.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #3 Saturday’s Charm (9/5) in race 2 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Exaggerator ran out at Keeneland. Stats – 162/107/$813.90; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
