January 29, 2012 - 2:02 am
Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Flawless Jewel – Dropped to the bottom last time and ran third again; Kristin Mulhall adding blinkers on for this.
6 Smil’n From Above – Been mired at this $20K level since her career debut; been second best three races in a row.
Long Shot – 4 Golden Nip
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 You Can Dream – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much to handle these.
1 Folk Dancer – Another dropping in class to the bottom rung; has good early speed so will try and get the jump.
Long Shot – 5 Dubai Macau Girl
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Warren’s Morgan – Ran a career best in last, which if repeated, can beat these; facing a bunch of real slowpokes.
5 Ansede – Finished with Warren’s Morgan two races ago; grinder in surely a no passing zone maiden claimer.
Long Shot – 3 Sweetsouthernambar
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 Via Verde – May have moved prematurely in last; big class drop and returning to dirt where he has run well in the past.
6 Valkyrie Missile – Like that Joel Rosario takes the call in this $25K claimer; parking lot post to clock the speed.
Long Shot – 2 Circle Drive
Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
6 My Slew – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; has reached the now or never level.
1 Joburg Star – Been away 18-months since Del Mar 2010; faced good ones back then, returns at the bottom rung tonight.
Long Shot – 3 Our Last Monte
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
9 Mega Heat – Closer should appreciate the cut back in distance; runs best when he has a target to go after.
4 Utopian – Ran evenly, but not well, on dirt in the San Pasqual; shows better grass form so expect improvement.
Long Shot – 2 Surplus
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
6 Brannaman – Bob Baffert $500K baby is a twice beaten favorite; by Ghostzapper, should improve as the distances lengthen.
2 Zackn’mat – Turned in a nice run last time when second at 8/1 odds; has shown steady improvement in all three starts.
Long Shot – 1 Boat Trip
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $70,000 Wishing Well, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Unzip Me – Ran evenly in the Monrovia over the hillside course she adores; this class drop can help her facing easier foes.
2 Remit – Closed OK in the Monrovia but made no impact; these are easier and she could carve out a better trip.
Long Shot – 9 Teroda
Race 9 – 7 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
10 Russian Bayou – I like parking posts in elongated sprints out of a chute; Joel Rosario should carve out a good trip.
9 Capalatte – Lost her rider to Russian Bayou, but picks up Martin Pedroza; should add some parimutuel value then.
Long Shot – 5 Siempre Esperanza
Best Bet – 6 Unzip Me (race 8)
