Horse Racing, Santa Anita Park, Feb. 9
February 9, 2012 - 2:01 am
Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
2 Belle Gallantey – Her run for a $30K price tag two back is fast enough to beat these; these are clearly her friends.
5 Warren’s Assassin – Been stuck at this $30K price tag for some time; key vote is that Rafael Bejarano takes the call.
Long Shot – 1 Singmeasong
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
5 Fed Biz – When a Bob Baffert baby costs $950K, big things are expected; flattered when Zackn’mat won his next out.
1 Consulado – Impressive MSW winner takes on the Bob Baffert graduate; love the rail post going a 2-turn mile.
Long Shot – 3 Blueskiesnrainbows
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds
1 Rude Bobby – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; ran better with blinkers on in last.
5 Dream Caught – Been disappointing since a promising career debut; might be able to rebound at an honest price.
Long Shot – 3 I Feel Free
Race 4 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Bella Swan – Claimed by Mike Mitchell, one of the best bet angles in SoCal; he’s faving, for him, a slow meet so far.
1 Bellini Bliss – Like the rail post to save all the ground and grind it out late; proven to prefer grass surface.
Long Shot – 4 Rosehill Dew
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Missie Ky I You – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much to handle these.
7 Rags for Ben – Woke up last time for a career best race; could be reuniting her with Chantal Sutherland.
Long Shot – 6 Hey I’m Sobaa
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
8 Hasty Trend – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; key vote is Rafael Bejarano taking the call.
10 Brady Blue Eyes – Won last out when dropped down to the bottom; he has plenty of back class to repeat the race.
Long Shot – 5 Clear to Canada
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $63,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
2 Sayif – Let’s try this speedball with the turf rail out 30 feet; simple tactics for French rider Freddie Lenclud.
9 Pressday – Like the parking lot post for this Aussie import; John Sadler does great with imports, especally on grass.
Long Shot – 5 Leroy’s Dynameaux
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up
6 Cyclometer – Ran well in debut back at the fall SA meet; speedball outran his pedigree, exiting a bullet workout.
2 Moroccan Sky – John Shirreffs has an uncoupled entry and both can win; first time gelding could really move forward here.
Long Shot – 4 Randazo
Best Bet – 2 Belle Gallantey (race 1)
Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$32.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$7.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80
