Horse Racing, Santa Anita Park, Feb. 24

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

5 Devoted Magic – Awful run last time on the grass; returned to dirt where his one race was a win.

1 Runaway Wildcat – Claimed by Doug O’Neill for $25K and dropped in for $16K; red flag for most, not O’Neill.

Long Shot – 6 Belo Purse

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Lisa Lulu – Tough trip in last, now Joel Rosario takes over; not a whole lot of difference between $10K and $8K.

2 Gambling Pokerface – Been away 2-years, but must be respected on back class; Bill Spawr adding blinkers on.

Long Shot – 6 Si Mar’s Dear

Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up

4 Prime Number – With the turf rail out 30 feet, expect this speedball to play catch me if you can under Kevin Krigger.

1 Blue Jon – Typical green debut, slow early, fast late; closers up against it with the turf rail out 30 feet.

Long Shot – 7 Rock Off

Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming 430,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

3 Candy and Thunder – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to win here.

7 Chimi Dee – This field is so poor, you need to examine this FTS; your edge over me is seeing the tote board action.

Long Shot – 5 Golden Miracle

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

2 Brown Is Beige – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; Doug O’Neill barn has been heating up.

4 We Are One – Turf Paradise import showed she belonged with a strong run in last; shortens up for first hillside run.

Long Shot – 5 Picture Perfect

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

1 Heidi Maria – Returned to dirt in a big way last time; strong third facing a solid veteran group.

3 Mizzen Donald – Solid dirt resume so no surprise Rafael DeLeon puts her back on it; won’t be 73/1 like last time out.

Long Shot – 5 Screaming Regal

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

6 Starspangled Heat – Barry Abrams barn is long overdue to win some races; reunited with Corey Nakatani and the hillside course.

3 Earnednevergiven – Gets class relief from a good Phoenix turf stakes for this; hard knocker has earned more than $400K.

Long Shot – 2 Circa’goldengear

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds

7 Dream Caught – Key vote for me comes from Rafael Bejarano; like seeing top riders taking a call in cheap races.

3 Take No Prisoners – Logical chalk is the only Bob Baffert horse on the card; cuts back in distance, should finish.

Long Shot – 4 Givimaway

Best Bet – 4 Prime Number (race 3)

Santa Anita Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$52.80; Long Shots, 8/1/$13.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Park Totals – 609/154/$970.80; Long Shots, 307/44/$533.60; Best Bets, 35/17/$60.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #5 De Price (4/1) in race 8 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Scat Happy won at Gulfstream Park paying $6.20 to win, $3.20 to place and $3.00 to show. Stats – 32/24/$229.40; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
