Horse Racing, Hollywood Park, July 8
July 8, 2012 - 12:59 am
Today at Hollywood Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Via Verde – Looks like potential lone early speed; at least we’ll know where he’ll be the early part of the race.
5 Trumpet Player Jay – Won wire to wire in last; his race two back is the style he’ll need to run today to win.
Long Shot – 4 Armenian Star
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
3 Katie’s Ten – Returns to Hollywood where the last time she ran here was in the grade 3 Miesque; to say the least, this spot is easier.
1 Sea of Desire – Tepid chalk in a wide open sprint; save all the ground and grind late under Joe Steiner.
Long Shot – 5 Dustin’s Magic
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf), $68,000 Le Cle, Fillies, 3-year-olds
4 Trois Aureole – Ran well in the grade 2 Honeymoon last out; this is an easier spot and she could control the tempo.
2 Lemon Hero – Stretching out from 6-furlongs to a 2-turn mile; should be sitting a lot closer to the early pace.
Long Shot – 3 Lady Ten
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Ranchero – Claimed by Robertino Diodoro from Bob Baffert; if they’re not stakes caliber, Baffert culls them out quickly.
2 Hidden Blessing – This race is a real crap shoot; has enough back class to run a repeat race, or better.
Long Shot – 3 Afleet Deal
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $35,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Candy and Thunder – Has lost 4 excruciating races in a row; I’ll give Doug O’Neill credit, he remains loyal to Daniel Vergara.
1 Three Cuties – Iggy Puglisi rides for Paul Aguirre; if you’ve bet this combo cold, then you’re showing a sweet flat bet profit.
Long Shot – 6 Conkate
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $22,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Street Rocket – Ran well off a 9-month hiatus; Jeff Mullins ran him for a price tag and this is where he obviously belongs.
3 War Face – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; big rider switch to Joe Talamo.
Long Shot – 5 Et Tu Walker
Race 7 – 1 1/4 miles (turf), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
10 Veter – Tepid chalk in another wide open race; parking lot post is a negative, but he has Rafael Bejarano up.
8 Renegade Storm – Dead late closer gets the best rider for that running style, Garrett Gomez; sits a trip and fires wide late.
Long Shot – 6 Euroglide
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
3 Sinai – Second start off a 7-month hiatus; Bob Baffert is winning everything, big race, middle races, even small races.
7 Mile High Magic – Other half of a Bob Baffert uncoupled entry; their running styles complement each other so a quinella is doable.
Long Shot – 8 Don Tito
Race 9 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 Jerry’shoneycarol – Has been well bet in both career starts; showed improvement in second career start for Jerry Hollendorfer.
8 Heir Kitty – FTS from Peter Miller; his barn does especially well at Hollywood Park where he’s stable year round.
Long Shot – 9 Dance Team
Best Bet – 7 Street Rocket (race 6)
Betfair Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/7/$34.60; Long Shots, 9/1/$8.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 755/202/$1,250.40; Long Shots, 377/54/$547.00; Best Bets, 40/16/$61.20
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #9 Sr. Henry (5/2) in race 5 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Turbo Compressor won at Monmouth Park paying $7.00 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.20 to show. Stats – 104/72/$594.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
