Horse racing, Hollywood Park, July 13

Today at Hollywood Park

Post Time 7 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Belo Purse – Start of a rather moribund betting card tonight; when we play the races, the angle is someone has to win the race.

5 Classical Slew – Barn switch to Craig Dollase; his last work was a bullet but that was done for trainer Kristin Mulhall.

Long Shot – 4 Lone Justice

Race 2 – 5 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

1 Half Moon Gambler – This race is a lot worse than the first race, and that was awful; vote for Rafael Bejarano, that’s all I got.

3 Pursuitofparadise – Morning line favorite, but this race will be timed with a sundial; oh, it’s night racing, never mind.

Long Shot – 4 Bluegrass Girls

Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

3 Call Me Jones – Seems like a big class rise from $10K to $25K; his race two back was for $40K, so he can handle these.

4 Secret Spy – This is a vote for the Peter Miller barn; he is finishing up a fine meet over his home track.

Long Shot – 5 Above Par

Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

10 Zenett – Vann Belvoir adding blinkers on for this; she’s a quick filly who figures to leave the gate even faster.

11 Tarheel Babe – FTS from trainer Paul Aguirre; he and Iggy Puglisi have won some memorable races this Hollywood meet.

Long Shot – 2 Nifty Dream

Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

2 Floating Feather – Draw a line thru his last race and his resume looks a whole lot better; class relief can only help.

4 Master Chef – Main question is where did that last race come from; if he repeats that effort, he’ll win today too.

Long Shot – 3 Daylight Magic

Race 6 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Five Times – Beau Greely is slowly getting back into the swing of things; this Fair Grounds invader faced better stock back when.

4 Chocolate Delight – Beau Greely has an uncoupled entry and both have a big shot; this one gets a big rider switch to Garrett Gomez.

Long Shot – 5 Lovely Sophia

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 Unusual Hottie – May be the shortest priced favorite on the card; has good tactical speed, an asset with the turf rail out 10 feet.

3 Donner Wasser – Lone Mike Mitchell starter on today’s program; this one is dropped in class in search of a victory.

Long Shot – 6 Jewel Seeker

Race 8 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

11 Tiz a Brite Miss – Has been a beaten favorite 5 races in a row; this is clearly the slowest group she’ had to face.

6 Color Girl – FTS from Doug O’Neill; O’Neill must feel like he has a knife in his back, courtesy of the New York Times article.

Long Shot – 5 Stupendous Princess

Best Bet – 10 Zenett (race 4)

Betfair Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/7/$37.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 0/0/$0

Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 787/213/$1,311.40; Long Shots, 392/55/$561.80; Best Bets, 40/16/$61.20

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #7 Smartys Emperoress (3/1) in race 4 at Arlington Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Rustler Hustler won at Belmont Park paying $3.80 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats – 106/73/$603.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
