TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs (turf), $70,000 Great Lady M, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Broken Dreams – Draw a line through the two dirt races and her turf resume looks great; sprint specialist too.
5 Separate Forest – Speedball has a tough parking lot post to break from; P Val will play catch me if you can.
Long Shot – 2 Givine
Race 2 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Pool of Fire – FTS from Adam Kitchingman; barn has a well-earned reputation for popping with their babies.
6 Warren’s Fancy – Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; you have a big edge over me in seeing the tote board action.
Long Shot – 8 Joseph Joe
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
7 Smash – Ran too good to lose in last; anything close to that race will likely beat these to a pulp.
2 Hoorayforhollywood – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry, so caveat emptor; see if the longer price wins.
Long Shot – 6 Sahara Sky
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
12 Whiskers and Rye – Was well bet every race with Rafael Bejarano; big value now with Agapito Delgadillo.
7 Lily Amore – Tepid chalk in a very slow, wide-open field; last race was fast enough to beat these.
Long Shot – 10 Three Cuties
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Fifie’s Fantasy – Speed and the rail are a big edge in Inglewood turf sprints; should be aggressively ridden.
4 Marrymeonemoretime – Claimed by Mike Mitchell, expect improvement; 4-for-4 in the money on turf.
Long Shot – 3 Prytania
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Stunningly – Ran like a short horse in last off a 16-month hiatus; turned out to be a key race too.
6 Judge Joan – Drops in class off a good second against tougher; Jeff Mullins barn has been heating up.
Long Shot – 2 Led Advantage
Race 7 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Nashiller – FTS from Carla Gaines has a royal family pedigree; kin to grade 1 champion Nashoba’s Key.
2 Lula Talullah – Tepid chalk has had 3 shots already to graduate; faced boys in last, back with girls here.
Long Shot – 5 Valeria
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $52,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
2 King Cola – Slipped in the La Puente losing all chance; returns with Joel Rosario up, that’s good enough for me.
4 Jakesam – Tepid chalk gets class relief from the grade 2 American Turf; nice 3-YO is just a cut below.
Long Shot – 6 Prayer for Relief
Race 9 – 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Flashmans Papers – Speedball will try this elongated sprint; my angle is this may be a no-passing-zone race.
14 Capt Sparrow – Dead-late closer will hope the race falls apart late; Joel Rosario sits and makes one run.
Long Shot – 1 Purse Luva
Best Bet – 7 Smash (race 3)
Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$10.60; Long Shots, 7/2/$19.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals – 390/104/$733.60; Long Shots, 187/31/$288.00; Best Bets, 22/7/$30.40
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 8 Ruthenia (3/1) in race 10 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Harbor Fox ran second at Delaware Park paying $3.20 to place and $2.60 to show. Stats – 87/53/$403.30
