HORSE RACING
April 30, 2011 - 1:24 am
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Led Advantage – Logical chalk is still no worldbeater against a soft field; was flattered when Kahlua Mist won next out.
5 Ballerina Angel – Should gain valuable conditioning turning back in distance from a turf mile; her race two back was good.
Long Shot – 3 Morning Frost
Race 2 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
4 Smoking G – Shows a long sequence of works over Polytrack at Keeneland; suspect she will enjoy this surface too.
1 Pend Oreille – The rail post is a huge advantage at this abbreviated turf distance; like Rafael Bejarano up too.
Long Shot – 6 Sheriff Hutton
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Bay Rush – Sharp finish in last first time wearing blinkers on; seemed to really improve his focus.
1 Magic Spirit – Ground saving trip for this dead-late closer; has earned four paychecks racing with his friends.
Long Shot – 5 Sir Ed
Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $38,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Farley Star – Game win in a marathon last out; turns back in distance but is well spotted for a repeat performance.
1 My Maloof Rocker – Speedball draws the rail to save all the ground inside; key is fitness off an 8-month hiatus.
Long Shot – 7 Rainbow Luck
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $52,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
9 Rauschenberg – Draw a line through his awful dirt debut and his resume looks fine; no one in the field likes to win races.
7 Tamarack Smarty – Dead-late closer was a stride late in last; third start off a 9-month hiatus could be his best.
Long Shot – 4 Alley Hondro
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Advantage Player – In a field packed with early speed, expect Joel Rosario to take back; can sit a pocket trip if she relaxes.
5 Brown Is Beige – Big trainer change to John Sadler who has improved a horse or two in his career; watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot – 7 Nice Meidel
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
4 Saddleranch – FTS from the wicked-hot Bob Baffert barn; all of his babies work fast and run fast too.
5 Celtic Charmer – Has run well every time out but hangs right on the money; could do worse than owning a tryer like this.
Long Shot – 2 Just Imagine
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Wilshire Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Vamo a Galupiar – Interesting Chilean invader was a monster on turf down there; watch the tote board for clues.
11 Talktoomuch – If the pace is a wee bit quick, this long shot will be flying late; worth including at 10/1 odds.
Long Shot – 7 Dubawi Heights
Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 My Man Sumo – Should gain conditioning exiting a turf route; like the turn back in distance, best stride comes late.
6 A Lil Dumaani – Adding blinkers on to his arsenal; this is the cheapest price tag he’s ever raced at.
Long Shot – 5 Flashmans Papers
Best Bet – 9 Vamo a Galupiar (race 8)
Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/7/$41.60; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.80
Hollywood Park Totals – 85/26/$170.80; Long Shots, 43/4/$46.00; Best Bets, 4/3/$12.80
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 8 Indiano (9/2) in race 8 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Double Judge ran out at Calder. Stats – 71/47/$366.40
