TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Dave’s Revenge – Ground-saving trip could spell the difference; sliding down the claiming ladder to this low level.
3 Tripped the Light – Claimed by Jeff Mullins, reason enough to respect the favorite; has a solid resume in Inglewood.
Long Shot – 4 Church Avenue
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Fire Glow – Speedy sort ships from Golden Gate for this; the gap has narrowed a lot in the talent between the two circuits.
8 Flashman’s Papers – Trainer Peter Miller is off to a solid start this meet; can sit a perfect trip flanking the favorite.
Long Shot – 5 Ribald
Race 3 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Memorial, 3-year-olds
1 Runflatout – Highly regarded colt got into a ridiculous speed duel in the San Felipe; he is a lot better than that.
5 Bench Points – Could see a perfect trip from a parking lot post in this elongated sprint; clocks the speed and fires late.
Long Shot – 4 Ain’t No Other
Race 4 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Pleasing Sunrise – Draws the favorable rail post in this turf sprint; saves all the ground and fires fast late.
6 Miss Georgie Girl – Moves to the outside, which is a negative in Inglewood turf sprints; strong comeback race in last.
Long Shot – 2 Fullbridled’s Sis
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 She’sawontontomato – Like the turn back in distance from a turf route for this elongated sprint; will be running well at the end.
4 Running Isabella – Tepid chalk in a tough race; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.
Long Shot – 8 Silver Luna
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Control Seeker – When Mike Mitchell gets them good, they stay good; prefers to sit in arrears and make one run.
6 Red Alert Day – Good tactical speed to stalk the rail speed horse Kris Silver; has found his class level and this is it.
Long Shot – 1 Kris Silver
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
6 Matlow – Ran against tougher last summer at Del Mar; Bruce Headley barn is heating up after a long slumber at Santa Anita.
7 Clinton – Solid run in debut punctuated with avoiding a spill; goes from 24/1 in debut to favorite role tonight.
Long Shot – 2 High Test
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
6 Off the Wall – More Bruce Headley if you can take it; like when a horse wins and runs a slower Beyer, shows room to improve.
2 Italian Rules – Favorite will have his hands full with these; his last 5 races have been decided by a combined yard.
Long Shot – 7 Sea Rascal
Race 9 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
5 Mr. Cappuccino – You’ll have an edge over me in seeing the tote board action; was bet in debut and ran well late.
1 Passing Game – Has been working well and the rail is good in these abbreviated sprints; suspect will show some early cheese.
Long Shot – 2 Uncommon Sense
Best Bet – 1 Pleasing Sunrise (race 4)
Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/3/$13.00; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.80
Hollywood Park Totals – 255/66/$476.00; Long Shots, 125/24/$221.60; Best Bets, 14/6/$27.40
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 7 Dr. Ballenger (3/1) in race 10 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Expecting Cash ran third at Churchill Downs paying $2.80 to show. Stats – 79/49/$380.70
