HORSE RACING

Today at Santa Anita Park

By Richard Eng

Post Time Noon

Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

5 Capital Account – Bob Baffert colt has a lot of early speed; the $64K question will be how far he wants to go.

4 Light Up the Score – Draw a line thru the Malibu and his resume looks fine; not sure why he ran a cropper in last.

Long Shot – 3 Sway Away

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

3 Madeoftherightstuf – Underwent the ultimate equipment change; as a first time gelding, I expect a major improvement today.

8 Goodbye Charlie – Sight unseen for 7-months after a solid try at Hollywood; watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot – 2 Unstopper Topper

Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Santa Ysabel, Fillies, 3-year-olds

3 Batalha – Looks to have a nice future with this outstanding pedigree; would be not shock to pull a major upset today.

2 Eden’s Moon – Very impressive MSW win last out; did lose a little lustre though when Flashy Dame was upset on Friday.

Long Shot – 7 Charm the Maker

Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $100,000 Sensational Star, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

4 Compari – Moves to the top rung after major defections in here; like the cut back in distance, will be flying late.

2 Ain’t No Other – Speedball figures to play catch me if you can; will go as fast and as far as he can down the hill.

Long Shot – 8 Red Defense

Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Crystal Water, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up

5 Holladay Road – Like that Rafael Bejarano had choices and opted to ride for Julio Canani; equal ability on any surface.

4 Thirtyfirststreet – Speedy sort was tons the best last time facing easier; runs best when on or near the early lead.

Long Shot – 6 Macho Dorado

Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Valentine Dancer, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

3 Antares World – Clever win over the morning line favorite in last; Martin Garcia takes over in this stakes engagement.

9 Halo Dolly – Returned home for a confidence builder win in last; her loss two back was inexplicable considering her foes.

Long Shot – 1 Secret Cove

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

7 Sahara Sky – Been away 5-months but showed some ability; chased good ones last year like Smash and Sway Away.

4 Jim’s No Preacher – Takes a big class drop when running unprotected today; why are they risking him for a price tag.

Long Shot – 5 Runflatout

Race 8 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

2 Bonita Star – Mike Mitchell has an uncoupled entry and both have a big chance; this one is sliding down the claiming ladder.

3 Van Brit – Last time she ran for this price tag she won; been away 7-months, the key question is her fitness.

Long Shot – 1 R Vicarious Girl

Race 9 – 7 furlongs, $300,000 Santa Monica, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

6 Rumor – This filly has been handled like fine china; Papa Mandella finally puts her in deep water for the ultimate test drive.

Long Shot – 2 Big Tiz

Race 10 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
