March 4, 2011 - 2:08 am
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $56,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Lunch Time Diva – Hate the rail post, but liked her hillside win in last; hoping to break the post 1 goose egg in here.
2 Advantage Player – Could be lone speed, which is aided by the turf rail out 15 feet; catch her late to win.
Long Shot – 4 Teroda
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
5 Easy On The Eye – Will benefit if Island Run and Nitro Active duel on the lead; could inherit the lead in the lane.
6 Nitro Active – Has an OK record over Santa Anita dirt; speedball must pray that Island Run does not go to the front.
Long Shot – 4 Island Run
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $28,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Captain Beau – Led wire to wire in a slow pace route in last; suspect can be effective sitting just off the pace in here.
5 Gregor – Tries turf for the first time; exits a much improved race over dirt and has top turf pilot in Corey Nakatani.
Long Shot – 4 Regal Fever
Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds
1 Wild Hombre – Don’t you like betting a lost rider horse next out?; like the rail post at a mile, will show speed.
6 Gallant Gent – Huge class drop points out the obvious; Craig Lewis takes the blinkers off, gets claimed, wins a purse.
Long Shot – 5 Mr. Saturdaynight
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $56,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
7 Blue Jay Attack – Dead-late closer exited a strong field in last; Rafael Bejarano will sit a trip and fire late.
2 Kajiwara – Again, I’m picking the dreaded rail post down the hill; turf debut and been away 10 months.
Long Shot – 4 Nextdoorneighbor
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
9 Reality Ride – Beaten favorite drops back in for a price tag tonight; parking lot post to clock the early speed.
5 El Vino – Flew home late last time to just miss; been away 2 months, fresh, fit and dangerous facing these.
Long Shot – 2 Precious Indy
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $56,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Separate Forest – Appears to relish the downhill turf course; will be aided by the turf rail out 15 feet.
10 Good Vibrations – Dead-late closer draws a favorable outside post; Joel Rosario will sit and make one run.
Long Shot – 11 Saaneen
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
11 Magical Eclipse – Ran once for a $75k price tag, drops to $30k tonight; key is picking up Rafael Bejarano.
8 Officerwasispeedin – Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; has tactical speed to attend the early pace.
Long Shot – 5 Lily Amore
Best Bet – 7 Blue Jay Attack (race 5)
Santa Anita Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/1/$8.20; Long Shots, 6/2/$17.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 6 Hallway (9/2) in race 4 at the Fair Grounds. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, My Friend Nev ran out at Tampa Bay Downs. Stats – 39/28/$229.10
