TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Preferred Mandate – Taking a small, but significant, class drop; showed a liking to synthetics in last.
2 Aeromon – Been away 10 months since Del Mar; likely faced much tougher then than he does this afternoon.
Long Shot – 7 Party Ruler
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Alienation – Talk about class relief, exits 3 graded stakes for this; fitness is her only question mark.
2 Going for a Spin – She is a grinder, but a good one at that; from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer barn.
Long Shot – 3 Candy’s Pleasure
Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Casa O – Looked like a test drive in last, now returns with Rafael Bejarano up; expect a better effort.
2 Just Heat – Tepid chalk in a very wide-open affair; his last 3 races are all fast enough to beat these.
Long Shot – 5 Luv Dragon
Race 4 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 Nofty – One of the few with experience that shows anything; like his speed from the rail 20 feet out.
2 Madeoftherightstuf – Looking at the FTS because the others appear too slow; the barn likes to bet too.
Long Shot – 6 Royal Heat
Race 5 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
6 Galleta Monstruo – Has 4 career wins, now tries allowance condition; much better horse over synthetics.
5 Domonation – Many close-but-no-cigar finishes; reunited with Joel Rosario to try and get over the hump.
Long Shot – 4 Eye On Jacob
Race 6 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Hot Ticket – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career-low class; tactical speed to stalk the pace.
1 Wild Cat Lore – Stretching out around 2 turns for the first time; saves ground and grinds late.
Long Shot – 6 Lake Believe
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Blue Chagall – Runs better covered up and didn’t get that at Golden Gate; reunited again with Garrett Gomez.
4 Ferneley – Spent a miserable winter in Dubai running like crap; he should relish today’s class relief.
Long Shot – 2 Smokey Lonesome
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Blind Magic – Did everything but win last time in a solid effort; was 3 lengths clear of third in last.
3 Creston Cowboy – Adding blinkers on for graduation day; Joel Rosario may get a solid early pace to chase.
Long Shot – 10 What a Goldmine
Best Bet – 5 Alienation (race 2)
Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$14.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals – 444/113/$780.80; Long Shots, 213/37/$339.80; Best Bets, 25/8/$33.40
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 4 Ava K. (8/5) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Unaccountable won at Belmont Park paying $6.50 to win, $3.70 to place and $2.60 to show. Stats – 89/55/$433.20
