TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Zees Chris – Rafael Bejarano had choices and opted to ride for Mike Harrington; like the turn back in distance.
2 Free Range – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to graduate.
Long Shot – 5 Silver Luna
Race 2 – 7 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Star Nicholas – Ran well in first start off a 7-month hiatus; may have found a new, lower comfort level here.
6 Bestdressed – Dead-late closer flew fast, but a stride late, in last; huge class drop points out the obvious.
Long Shot – 4 Concerto’s Thunder
Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
1 He’s a Dance Star – Speed and the rail are an asset in Inglewood turf sprints; will play catch me if you can.
5 Mensa Heat – Sharp win first off the claim by Ted West; returns to turf where he has shown a dual affinity for.
Long Shot – 4 Royal F J
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
15 Pet Me Pet Me – Must draw in from the also-eligible list; fell apart in last after a promising debut try.
6 Denali Moon – Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; turf route should have supplied important conditioning.
Long Shot – 9 More Than Happy
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Hughesy – Steep class dropper holds a big edge if right; ran well for $32k price tag two races ago.
3 El Merito – Third start off a 4-month hiatus; has good tactical speed to sit a nice trip, grinding late.
Long Shot – 6 Donato
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Magic School – Has shown ability in both career starts; favored both starts, she improved some last time out.
9 Hey I’m Sobaa – Speedball has the ultimate speed jock in P Val; simple tactics of go as fast and as far as she can.
Long Shot – 4 My Brite Caroline
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Dahoud – Should get a nice ground-saving trip from the rail; class relief, exits 2 graded stades for this.
7 Hyades – Sight unseen since July at Del Mar; this clearly is a warmup for bigger fish down the pike.
Long Shot – 4 Norvsky
Race 8 – 1 1/8th miles, $150,000 Californian, 3-year-olds and up
1 Twirling Candy – On the shelf with a foot problem; shortens up, blinkers off, easier foes spells a big effort.
7 Setsuko – Sure to be overbet off a high contact Big Cap stretch run; main problem is he is not big on winning races.
Long Shot – 5 Spurrier
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Suances Star – FTS from Sal Gonzalez has worked fast at Sunland Park and Turf Paradise; win would blow up the tote board.
5 Queenofcalifornia – Speedball will try and bottom out the field under P Val; terrible field, maybe a no-passing-zone field.
Long Shot – 7 She’s All Yours
Best Bet – 1 Twirling Candy
Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$14.60; Long Shots, 8/1/$8.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
