TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
2 Mr. Cappuccino – Horses training in Inglewood have an edge over the home track; like that Rafael Bejarano takes the call.
3 Unhitchthetrailor – You’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the tote action; all FTS here, the wiseguys will let you know.
Long Shot – 6 No Team Spirit
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Roulette It Roll – Has 3 lifetime wins, which dwarfs this field; saves all the ground inside for P Val.
5 Meter Me Gone – Joel Rosario had choices and opted to ride for Jack Carava; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot – 6 Clubhouse Rules
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Steve’s Blue Sky – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; facing a very slow group.
4 Miss Resplendere – Another dropping in class from MSW to maiden claiming; off the grass angle and turn back in distance.
Long Shot – 5 Three Cuties
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 My Boy Luke – FTS from David Hofmans has solid pedigree; leap of faith in Joel Rosario making the right call.
2 Cragmont – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; he is long in the tooth with 10 losses.
Long Shot – 5 Brite Dreamer
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
10 Jax El – Corey Nakatani is a great turf rider; he’ll gun this filly, slow down the pace, then ride the hair off her to the wire.
1 Picture Perfect – Was flattered when Separate Forest won next out; saves all the ground inside and will come running.
Long Shot – 8 Warren’s Got Game
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Itssultryinthecape – Adding blinkers on, appears to hold a class edge over these; tactical speed in the hardest race on the card.
6 Papa Terry – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career-low price tag; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal.
Long Shot – 9 Obsess
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), $100,000 Inglewood Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
6 Jeranimo – Not worried about the 2-week turn around; with his late running style, he only blasts off a quarter mile in a race.
5 The Usual Q. T. – Has more tactical speed than Jeranimo; hard to separate these two with a crowbar, coin flip.
Long Shot – 1 Liberian Freighter
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, Fillies, 3-year-olds
9 English Royal – Favored twice, won twice so far in her brief career; will be tested for class facing tougher tonight.
5 Hout Bay – Dead-late closer will hope the pace is fast enough to chase; first try over a synthetic surface.
Long Shot – 2 Dazzling Display
Race 9 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Vikkilee – Like the horse, hate the parking lot post; in turf sprints at Hollywood, you make a quick left turn to the straight.
6 Entabeni – She’s never won on turf, but this isn’t a field of worldbeaters; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.
Long Shot – 7 Queen Mariles
Best Bet – 6 Jeranimo (race 7)
Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/6/$35.80; Long Shots, 10/0/$0; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals – 51/15/$87.60; Long Shots, 26/2/$30.40; Best Bets, 2/2/$7.00
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 4 Dual Exhauzt (3/1) in race 5 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Cal Nation ran out at Aqueduct. Stats – 68/46/$362.60
