What’s happening at the NBA Summer League Day 8 — Golden State’s Rosco Allen, a Bishop Gorman alum, finished with 14 points in the Warriors’ 80-74 loss to the Mavericks
Play has begun at Cox Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center for Day 8 of the NBA Summer League, the final day of the Summer League eight-game schedule.
Saturday will feature quarterfinals, Sunday semifinals and Monday the title game.

8:58 p.m.
Golden State’s Rosco Allen, a former Bishop Gorman High standout, finished with 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting in the Warriors’ 80-74 loss to the Mavericks in a consolation game.
Allen, who hadn’t played much in the team’s first five summer league games, also pulled down three rebounds in 23:15 minutes of action.
8:53 p.m.
Ivica Zubac made one fan’s wish come true against the Jazz.
Before an out of bounds play, one fan in Thomas & Mack saw Zubac and Utah center Mike Tobey matched up against each other and yelled “dunk on him Zu!”
That same possession, Zubac did just that, grabbing a rebound and finishing strong. The fan then stood up and applauded.
The Jazz lead the Lakers 77-73 with under six minutes to play.
8:27 p.m.
You will not get to the hoop on Ivica Zubac.
The Lakers center already has five blocks early in the second half at Thomas & Mack, to go with eight points.
Los Angeles forward Brandom Ingram has 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting with guard D’Angelo Russell out and Lakers owner Jim Buss watching.
The Jazz lead the Lakers 53-50 halfway through the third quarter.
7:19 p.m.
The Ben Simmons show is over in Las Vegas.
D’Angelo Russell is done too.
Simmons, this year’s No. 1 pick has played his last summer league game after the 76ers 74-66 win over the heat, the only Philadelphia win Simmons played in during the tournament.
Simmons had a double-double in his final game, with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with six assists.
The forward averaged 12.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists in four games in Las Vegas.
Russell, the No. 2 pick in last year’s draft, will not play in the Lakers game against the Jazz to rest.
Russell averaged 21.8 points on 47.7 percent shooting in four NBA Summer League games.
7:08 p.m.
Golden State’s Patrick McCaw will not be playing in the Warriors-Mavericks game in the Cox Pavilion. The former UNLV guard is in street clothes on the team bench.
This comes a day after McCaw dropped 28 points on 10 of 17 shooting against the top-seeded Raptors.
6:15 p.m.
There’s good news to report on the Lakers’ Larry Nance Jr. According to Larry Shyatt, Nance’s college coach at Wyoming, Nance did not break his hand in the final minuite Thursday against Cleveland. Instead, it’s a sprain and while Nance won’t play against Utah at 7:30, he is expected to be fine in a few days.
“I talked to Larry a little while ago and he was relieved it wasn’t broken,” Shyatt, now an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks, said. “He was obviously in a lot of pain and we were all worried. But they re-checked him a little while ago and he’s going to be O.K.
5:54 p.m.
Wayne Embry, a five-time NBA All-Star, is watching the 76ers play the Heat at Thomas & Mack.
Miami center Hassan Whiteside is sitting on his team’s bench, while Philadelphia center Jahlil Okafor is doing the same.
The 76ers lead 21-20 after the first quarter.
5:16 p.m.
Ben Simmons is back on the court.
The No. 1 pick, who rested the last two games, is dressede to play and hung from the hoop as he walked onto the Thomas & Mack floor for warm-ups.
His team, the 76ers, are set to play the Heat.
5:14 p.m.
The Thomas & Mack crowd erupted for Milwaukee’s Stephen Sir.
Sir, who went to college at nearby Northern Arizona, had the crowd in a frenzy after making two straight baskets for the Bucks near the end of the game.
The crowd started chanting his name on offensive possessions as the game wore down and were audibly disappointed when the ball was in someone else’s hands.
Milwaukee lost to Houston 92-87.
4:59 p.m.
Houston center Chinanu Onuaku is injured.
The Rockets big man was down and grabbing at his right thigh after being fouled on the court.
He limped to the bench after being looked at by the trainers.
Houston leads Milwaukee 76-69 with 6:28 to go at Thomas & Mack. Former UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn has 11 points on 4-for-11 shooting.
4:32 p.m.
Boston coach Brad Stevens is in the Cox Pavilion to get one final look at the Celtics’ summer league team.
Fortunately for him, Jaylen Brown — the third overall pick in this year’s draft — suited up. Many notable players have sat for “rest.”
The Celtics, whose biggest deficit to Portland was 11 points in the second quarter, have pulled within 60-58 after three quarters.
Brown has 16 points for Boston.
Pierre Jackson, a 2009 Desert Pines High graduate, has 12 for the Trail Blazers.
4:09 p.m.
Buddy Hield’s time in the NBA Summer League didn’t go as planned, but the Pelicans guard is already focused on the future.
Hield, whose smooth shooting made him the No. 6 pick in this year’s draft, never dazzled the summer league crowds with the offensive efficiency that defined his career at Oklahoma.
Instead his shooting stroke fell flat, and he shot just 32.7 percent overall and 22.9 percent from three in five games in Las Vegas.
“I didn’t play the best that I wanted to play,” Hield said. “And trust me, even when I go to the Bahamas I’m going to make it priority one to get after it, because I need to get better.”
Despite a tough introduction to the professional world, Hield’s confidence remains unshaken.
“I know I’m a good shooter,” he said.
The guard averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in summer league play. He said his goals before the season are to learn the Pelicans system better, improve his spacing and work on his handle.
He went up to New Orleans Summer League coach Robert Pack after his last game, an 88-76 loss to the D-League Select team, to ask what he needs to work on.
“As much as I think he struggled with his shot, it was great for him to really see how teams are going to play him,” Pack said. “He got a good taste of a guy who’s a shooter in the league, how teams are going to try to take him away. And he’s got to really work on the little things, the set-ups, the pace he has to play at.”
Pack said the summer league would provide great video for Hield to look at between now and training camp. The rookie also picked up an important lesson at the tournament.
“Don’t watch TV and think that the NBA game is easy. When you get out here it’s different,” Hield said. “Don’t let teams fool you.”

Jabari Parker is in Thomas & Mack watching Milwaukee warm-up before its game against Houston.
The Bucks forward also got to see former Duke teammate Quinn Cook and the D-Leauge Select team defeat New Orleans 88-76.
Houston head coach Mike D’Antoni was sitting courtside during warm-ups.
2:44 p.m.
The NBA Summer League will hold a Military Appreciation Night on Saturday.
Starting at 4 p.m., there will be over 5,000 American flags distributed to fans. The festivities will be focused around the 5 p.m. Wizards-Bulls game. The game will start off with bagpipes, the Disabled American Veterans color guard and 24 kids from a Tarkanian Basketball team — the Little Rebels — holding flags to represent the 24 teams participating in the summer league.
Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak also will present a proclamation to Vietnam Veterans. There will be a check presentation by Albert Hall and Warren LaGerie to the Vietnam Veterans of Southern Nevada on behalf of Samsung NBA Summer League.
Lt. Daniel Vargas of Nellis Air Force Base will sing the national anthem. The Vietnam Veterans of Southern Nevada will be on the concourse, offering an exclusive Agent Orange remembrance pin for a $4 donation.

The family of Bryce Dejean-Jones was honored at the quarter break of the Pelicans game against the NBA D-League Select team at Thomas & Mack Center.
Jones, who played two seasons at UNLV, died in May of a gunshot wound. He was 23.
He signed a three-year deal with New Orleans in February.
1:34 p.m.
Before the national anthem there was a moment of silence in Thomas & Mack Center for the victims of Nice, France.
New Orleans is set to take on the D-League Select team in the first game of the day.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry is sitting courtside and said hello to Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas before the game.
1:10 p.m.
The San Antonio Spurs won’t be defending their summer league title as they finish out play today against Sacramento. But as the game tipped off in Cox Pavilion, Becky Hammon was coaching the Spurs while Nancy Lieberman was on the bench as an assistant for the Kings.
Two women who have been instrumental in growing the game going head-to-head in a men’s league.
