D-Leaguers in spotlight
We’re under way on Day Four of the 2009 NBA Summer League and the D-League Select squad is facing Minnesota in the first of six games as the Thomas & Mack gets utilized for the first time this year.
There are lots of D-League players sprinked throughout the rosters, but this is the first time a group has been put together to play as a unit. It’s actually a smart idea because it gives them a chance to work together at a similar talent level.
Former UNR assistant Jason Glover is the D-League Select’s assistant coach and he said don’t be surprised if more than one of his guys winds up on an opening night NBA roster.
Campers flock the Cox
It has become a tradition that the Monday session of the summer league gets hundreds of campers out to Cox Pavilion and that’s the case today as most of the warm bodies in the seats are 6, 7 and 8-year-olds from day camps around town. It’s nice because they bring an energy that normally doesn’t exist in the gym.
King James sighting
No, not LeBron, but rather the owner who thinks he’s king. That would be James Dolan, the Knicks’ owner. The usually reclusive owner showed up at Valley High School this morning and sat with president Donnie Walsh as the team practiced.
We’ll see if he shows up at the Cox Tuesday when his team plays Memphis. Given the number of hecklers already occupying the building, Dolan may want to reconsider showing up. He’s Public Enemy No. 1 among Knick fans, and there are a lot of them in Las Vegas.
