Nine-run fifth inning keys 51s’ victory at Reno

Las Vegas erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning to snap a two-game losing streak with a 15-9 Pacific Coast League victory Sunday at Reno.

The first seven hitters reached base for the 51s during the rally, which included four consecutive bases-loaded walks.

Dilson Herrera had three hits, including a two-run homer, in the third inning, drove in four runs and scored three times for Las Vegas (58-44). Johnny Monell had two hits and three RBIs for the 51s.

The offensive onslaught bailed out starter Matt Bowman after a tough outing. He allowed nine hits and six runs, five earned, in 3 1/3 innings. Dario Alvarez, making his 51s debut, recorded the final two outs of the fourth inning to pick up the victory.

Starter Allen Webster also struggled for the Aces (48-54), allowing nine runs on 10 hits while failing to record an out in the fifth inning.

The teams conclude the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. today.
