Mountain Ridge is one win from returning to the Little League World Series.
Garrett Cutting pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and hit a home run Friday to lift Mountain Ridge to a 9-0 victory over Hawaii representative Central East Maui in the West Regional in San Bernardino, California.
With the win, Mountain Ridge avenged its lone loss in four tournament games and advanced to Saturday’s 6 p.m. regional title game against Chula Vista, California-based Park View.
The winner will advance to the Little League World Series, slated to start Thursday in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Cutting, who issued no walks, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Mountain Ridge broke open the game with a six-run fifth that included a home run by Luke Miles and two-run singles by Rylan Evans and Ethan Hare.
Ryan Watkins went 3-for-3 and scored twice, helping Mountain Ridge to a 9-1 edge in hits.
In 2014, Mountain Ridge became the first team in Nevada history to advance to the Little League World Series.
It was crowned U.S. champion when the Chicago representative, which was responsible for Mountain Ridge’s lone loss, was forced to forfeit.
