More locals taken on final day of MLB Draft

Junior right-handed pitcher Michael Wagner, a Centennial High School graduate who attends the University of San Diego, was selected in the 15th round on the final day of the Major League Baseball Draft. He taken by the Chicago Cubs with the second pick of the round, the 438th overall selection.

UNLV had three players selected on the final day. The New York Yankees drafted senior right-handed pitcher Andrew Beresford in the 19th round (No. 28 in the round, 584th overall), and the Los Angeles Angels took senior center fielder Mark Shannon 24th (No. 21/No. 727) and senior right fielder Brandon Bayardi in the 36th (No. 21/No. 1,087).

From College of Southern Nevada, sophomore right-handed pitcher Will Morris was taken in the 24th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Morris, who was selected 15th in the round and No. 721 overall, also attended Durango High.

In the 40th and final round, the Milwaukee Brewers chose Bishop Gorman High right fielder Kenneth Meimerstorf with the 16th choice of the round and No. 1,202 pick overall.
