51s rally past Fresno, 3-2

Matt den Dekker’s two-out, two-run double to center field in the top of the seventh inning helped rally the 51s from a 2-1 deficit as Las Vegas defeated the Fresno Grizzlies, 3-2, Tuesday in Fresno, Calif.

With Zach Lutz and Taylor Teagarden at third and second respectively, den Dekker brought them both home with a line drive off Fresno starter and loser Mike Kickham (1-5). The 51s’ bullpen took care of everything else. Buddy Carlyle, who had replaced starter Giancarlo Alvarado, struck out the side in the sixth and wound up getting the win (1-0). Zack Thornton finished up with three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two to earn his first save. Las Vegas pitching struck out 11 Fresno batters as the 51s maintained their spot as the Pacific Coast League’s best team at 32-13.

The series continues at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
