51s rained out Monday; will play doubleheader Tuesday

A hard, midafternoon downpour in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has forced the 51s into their second Pacific Coast League doubleheader in less than a week.

Las Vegas and the Albuquerque Isotopes will play two seven-inning games at Isotopes Park on Tuesday, starting at 3:05 p.m. PDT. The 51s split a doubleheader Thursday against Fresno at home and will play one more doubleheader this season after Tuesday.

“In a sense, having today off is giving my bullpen a day off, which was much needed,” manager Wally Backman said. “Playing a doubleheader tomorrow, if we get quality starting pitching, the bullpen would get another day off.”

Duane Below, who was scheduled to pitch Monday, will start the first game of the doubleheader. Tyler Pill will start the second.

The 51s also will have Jim Henderson back in the bullpen. Henderson was with the 51s on rehab from the New York Mets but his rehab stopped because of a strained hamstring.

“He’s on rehab, so it’s lengthened our bullpen. But the guys that needed extra time off are going to get it,” Backman said.
