51s manager Wally Backman was named manager of the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday.
The Triple-A All-Star Game pits the PCL against the International League, which will be directed by Chris Tremie, the manager of the Columbus Clippers.
Backman won the 2014 PCL Manager of the Year award, and this is his first time managing the All-Star Game. Backman is in his 11th season managing in the minor leagues and fifth in Triple-A. Backman becomes the third Las Vegas manager to manage the All-Star Game, after Jerry Royster in 1998 and Marty Brown in 2012.
Backman will be joined on the coaching staff by Memphis Redbirds manager Mike Shildt and El Paso pitching coach Bronswell Patrick.
The game will be held on July 13 at BB&T Ballpark, the home of the IL’s Charlotte Knights. It will broadcast on the MLB Network at 4 p.m.
