51s give up four runs in sixth, fall at Tacoma, 5-4

Ty Kelly hit a three-run homer to lead the Tacoma Rainiers to a 5-4 Pacific Coast League victory over the Las Vegas 51s on Thursday night in Tacoma, Wash.

Kelly’s homer, his 14th this season, keyed a four-run sixth inning for the Rainiers (52-53), who overcame a 3-1 deficit.

The 51s (59-48) rallied in the ninth, scoring a run on Daniel Muno’s sacrifice fly. The game ended when Juan Centeno then lined out to center field.

Brandon Allen went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, his 12th, for the 51s. Teammate Matt den Dekker went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Tacoma’s Jordan Pries (7-6) allowed four hits and three runs, one earned, in seven innings. Todd Coffey pitched the ninth to pick up his fifth save. The 51s’ Logan Verrett (8-3) gave up seven hits and five runs in six innings.

Earlier in the day, the New York Mets recalled infielder Wilmer Flores, who was batting .323 with 13 homers and 57 RBIs. He also recently had a 22-game hitting streak. The Mets sent down outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who batted .246 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 30 games for New York.
