51s escape with walk-off victory for second straight game
Pinch hitter Dan Rohlfing was hit by the first pitch he saw with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the 51s a 6-5 win over the Iowa Cubs in a Pacific Coast League game Tuesday night at Cashman Field.
It was the second consecutive walk-off win for Las Vegas, which salvaged a split of the four-game series. Danny Muno hit a solo home run in the 12th inning Monday for the 51s (68-56).
Eric Campbell and Kirk Nieuwenhuis set the stage for the dramatic finish with back-to-back one-out singles in the ninth. After Nieuwenhuis moved to second on defensive indifference, the Cubs intentionally walked Darrell Ceciliani. The next pitch hit Rohlfing.
Dilson Herrera had three hits and scored twice for the 51s, who grounded into five double plays and left 11 runners on base.
Mike Olt had tied the game 5-5 for Iowa (67-56) in the eighth with a two-run double. Arismendy Alcantara had three hits for the Cubs, and pinch hitter Adron Chambers hit a two-run single in the fifth.
The 51s continue their homestand with a four-game series against Omaha beginning at 7:05 p.m. today.
