Woman sentenced to prison

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Lake Havasu City woman who engaged in sex with a 13-year-old boy was sentenced Monday to a prison term of 6 1/2 years.

The defendant, Norma Evans, 26, wept when sentenced by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Bob Moon.

Evans was convicted through a plea agreement of the reduced charge of attempted sexual conduct with a minor. The sexual activity, as charged in the original indictment, occurred between December and January.

Police reports indicate that Evans lived with another woman and her teenage son and that one of his friends was the victim.

Defense attorney Alex Harris urged the court to place Evans on probation, but prosecutor Jace Zack argued the judge should treat the case no differently than had the defendant been male and the victim female.

“You have an adult who knows better, and you have a 13-year-old boy who is not able to consent to anything,” Zack said. “I don’t believe you can discount the emotional harm done to a male being molested by a female.”
