Tommy Rocker’s tops more or less
June 17, 2007 - 9:00 pm
Entertainer/bar owner Tommy Rocker is joining the crowd.
“I’m going to embrace the topless business,” he said, trying to keep a straight face.
Next week, he hopes to switch Tommy Rocker’s Cantina & Grill to a strip club, after 12 years at its current location, 4275 Dean Martin Drive.
He took the stage Saturday night for the last time with his long-running solo sing-along act at that location.
“I’m retiring from playing at my place, but I’ll show up at any sleazy bars that will have me,” said Rocker, who came to Las Vegas in 1984 after years as a road musician.
He got his first gig at Carlos Murphy‘s near UNLV, “and they couldn’t get rid of me. It was one of the few bars in town with live music. I think I was the oldest guy there.”
He’s going to keep his name on the Dean Martin Drive marquee and operate his Southside Grill at Eastern Avenue and St. Rose Parkway. His wife, Donna, runs Black Mountain Grill at 11021 S. Eastern Ave.
He said the strip club’s motto will be, “Fun for the whole family, except your wife and kids.”
