Teen moped driver killed in hit-and-run crash

A 15-year-old boy driving a moped was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the northeast valley Thursday night.

Alex Martinez and a 20-year-old male passenger were traveling west on Meikle Lane about 8:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. They were crossing Ringe Lane, near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards where they were struck by an unknown vehicle, according to Las Vegas police.

Both Martinez and the passenger on the moped were thrown onto the road. The operator of the vehicle that hit them did not stop or call the police.

Martinez was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

This crash was the 112th traffic-related fatality in the Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2013.
