Teacher from Foothill High School under investigation

Henderson police are investigating a Foothill High School teacher on allegations of improper conduct with a student, a department spokesman said Monday.

Three teachers at the high school in Henderson are on administrative leave with pay.

District officials won’t say why the teachers were suspended but sources close to the investigation said the reason was allegations of sexual misconduct involving students.

Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said school district police forwarded one of the cases to the department Monday afternoon.

Paul refused to name the teacher because “nobody has been charged. We’re simply starting an investigation,” he said.

Clark County School District Superintendent Walt Rulffes said the transfer of one of the investigations to the Henderson police is evidence that the district is doing all it can to make sure nothing unlawful occurred.

“We’re not going to tolerate misuse of people’s authority in these positions,” Rulffes said of the district’s teachers and coaches.

“When we get allegations that appear to have substance we’re going to follow up, give due process and work with local law enforcement. Hopefully, this turns out to be something less than it appears,” he added.
