Services scheduled Monday for Jackie Gaughan

Funeral services for Las Vegas casino pioneer Jackie Gaughan will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Viator Catholic Church at the corner of Flamingo Road and Eastern Avenue.

The viewing for Gaughan, who died Wednesday at age 93, will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary on Main Street. A rosary will follow.

Gaughan once controlled 25 percent of the downtown gaming market and owned portions of some of the city’s most historic casinos. He spent his final years in the place he loved: an apartment atop the El Cortez, overlooking the city he adored.

During his career, Gaughan owned parts of the Union Plaza, Golden Nugget, Showboat, Boulder Club, Gold Spike, the Western, Las Vegas Club and the El Cortez.
