Rumors of shooting threat swirl at high school; security increased

Security will be increased at Green Valley High School today in response to rumors among students that someone might attempt a shooting on campus, the school’s principal said Thursday.

“We’re taking it seriously,” Principal Jeff Horn said about the rumored threat.

“We’ll look for things that are out of the ordinary.”

Horn said rumors circulated among members of the student body on Thursday afternoon. About a dozen students were interviewed, but school officials were unable to substantiate any of the rumors.

He added that Clark County School District and Henderson police have been asked to patrol the campus more frequently today.

Lt. Ken Young, a spokesman with the district police, reiterated Horn’s statements that the rumors were unsubstantiated. Regardless, Young said his department would provide an increased presence at the school. He didn’t want to elaborate, saying that the changes would be “tactical in nature.”

“We’ll work with the (Green Valley) administration to make subtle changes,” he said.

“Most of the changes won’t be noticeable in nature.”
