ROAD ALERT: Bubble Run to close downtown Las Vegas streets Saturday morning

Motorists mighty be seeing bubbles on city streets and will have to detour around a wide swath of downtown Saturday morning.

Las Vegas’ second-ever Bubble Run, a 5-kilometer race billed as “good, clean run,” will wind through downtown in an 8-by-5-block area bordered by Las Vegas Boulevard South, East Fremont Street, South Ninth Street and East Hoover Avenue.

Road closures and detours will be in place from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the race begins at 9.

Sponsored locally by Land Rover Las Vegas and benefitting the American Heart Association, the event features five foam bogs with different colors of suds through which participants run. Runners will be released in waves from a starting point near Sixth Street and Carson Avenue. The foam bogs and bubble cannons are spaced about 1 kilometer apart. The race ends at Ninth and Fremont streets.

Organizers of the event are inviting children to participate — but no pets. They’re encouraging sunglasses and goggle use, but say the consistency of the foam and bubbles isn’t slippery for runners.

The registration cost on the day of the race is $40.
