White House assails Nevada Rep. Susie Lee for impeachment support

WASHINGTON — The White House on Tuesday called out Democrat Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada for announcing her decision to vote in favor of impeachment.

In a statement, White House Deputy Press Secretary Steven Groves, said that Lee “said she would fight for better health care and increase economic opportunities for Nevadans, yet she has locked arms with Nancy Pelosi and unhinged Democrats in their baseless support for impeachment. While Lee is beholden to Pelosi and the D.C. swamp, President (Donald) Trump will not stop fighting for what matters most to all Nevadans — securing our southern border, better trade deals and growing our economy.”

Lee, who announced her decision to vote in favor of impeaching Trump on Friday, responded, “The only thing baseless is this false attack from an administration covering up its own corruption and broken promises.

“I delivered on my promise to improve Nevadans’ health care by passing the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, the most sweeping legislation to lower prescription drug costs in decades.

“Instead of using government resources to make political attacks, the White House should be focused on explaining why the president backed off his promise to take on big pharma. When the president is ready to take this issue seriously, I stand ready to work with him.”

Reps. Dina Titus and Steve Horsford, D-Nev., also have come out in favor of impeachment, but Lee’s 3rd Congressional District is the only one held by a Democrat that went for Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016, albeit narrowly.

Clinton, however, won Nevada with 47.92 percent of the vote to Trump’s 45.5 percent.

Rep. Mark Amodei, the lone Republican in the Silver State’s congressional delegation, has not revealed how he will vote on impeachment. In October, Amodei voted against the Democrats’ resolution to proceed with the impeachment hearing, after he had told reporters that he supported the impeachment process.
