Weekly program to teach about Nevada Legislature

CARSON CITY — A program to teach residents how the Legislature operates will be offered each week beginning March 5 through July 27.

"We believe that part of our mission is to engage the public and promote participatory democracy," said David Byerman, secretary of the state Senate.

"Nevada has a true citizen legislature, and we hope an educational program like this will help residents of our state better understand the challenges we face."

Legislative employees are adapting scripts, sample ballots and bills to give viewers an accurate simulation of the Legislature through the uLegislate program.

The program is geared toward any community group that would like a hands-on experience to make the legislative process more relevant and engaging, according to Byerman.

Details can be found at http://NVSecSenate.blogspot.com. Reservations are now being accepted.
