Governor signs bill allowing manufacture of special plates for Nevada’s 150th anniversary

CARSON CITY — Ready to be true to your state and buy the special license plate that celebrates the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission into the union?

On Friday, Gov. Brian Sandoval signed the bill that allows the Department of Motor Vehicles to begin manufacturing the special plate honoring Nevada’s Oct. 31, 1864, admission as the 36th state in the United States.

The plate should become available for purchase in late June or early July, according to David Fierro, the DMV spokesman in Carson City.

There is no early sign up sheet for acquiring the plate.

Fierro suggests that interested residents keep checking the DMV website, dmvnv.com, for information on when they can purchase a plate.

Sandoval encouraged residents to get theirs early. The plates will be available until Oct. 31, 2016.

The special plates cost an additional $32.50. Of that, $25 will go to the commission that is overseeing special events for the anniversary celebration.

“Today marks one day closer to when Nevada begins the celebration of our 150th anniversary of statehood,” Sandoval said in a prepared statement. “I am proud to sign this bill which will help our state prepare for the events and celebrations across Nevada as part of our sesquicentennial anniversary.”
