Campus carry measure shot down

Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, R-Las Vegas, is throwing down the gauntlet to Senate Judiciary Chairman Greg Brower, R-Reno, over her bill that would let concealed-carry permit holders take their weapons onto Nevada’s college campuses.

As first reported by the Review-Journal, fellow GOP lawmaker Brower said last week he did not believe there was support for Assembly Bill 148 — commonly called the Campus Carry bill — in the Senate. As a result, Brower said he has no plans to hear the bill, which passed the Assembly last month. No hearing has been scheduled, and Friday is the deadline for action in the committee.

In her weekly email to constituents, Fiore, said she wants to “turn the spotlight to Senator Greg Brower for his massive change of heart…

“Earlier this week, the senator who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee informed me that he would not be hearing Assembly Bill 148. This is strange to me because in 2011 Senator Brower had no problem voting in favor of campus carry bill, SB 231

“I brought this bill back this session because I believe that Nevadans should have the right to choose how to defend themselves.”
