Bill introduced to allow deadly self-defense in carjackings in Nevada

CARSON CITY — A bill that would expand the definition of justifiable homicide to extend beyond a home invasion to include those defending themselves in a carjacking type of situation was introduced in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Assembly Bill 171, sponsored by Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton, R-Las Vegas, is another in a growing list of firearms-related bills that will be considered in the GOP-controlled Nevada Legislature.
The bill would add the defense of a motor vehicle or in defense of someone who intends to enter a motor vehicle to assault someone to the definition of justifiable homicide.
Deadly force is justified in Nevada if a person believes that his or her life or safety, or the life or safety of another, is in jeopardy.
AB171 is just the latest in a series of Second Amendment measures introduced so far this session.
A bill that would allow those with concealed weapons permits to take their weapons onto the state’s college campuses was introduced Friday.
Assembly Bill 148, sought by Michele Fiore, R-Las Vegas, would allow those with concealed weapons permits to carry their weapons on the campus of the Nevada System of Higher Education, many public buildings and in unsecured areas of an airport.
