Clark County has joined Henderson and Las Vegas in adjusting alcohol regulations to allow certain beverages to be included in the curbside pickup service of some restaurants.
Despite initially saying it would not enforce Gov. Steve Sisolak’s order for nonessential businesses to shut down for 30 days, the city of Las Vegas will take action to see the directive is followed.
As the economic repercussions from the coronavirus outbreak ripple through the Las Vegas Valley, nonprofits and social services are seeing a decline in donations.
The announcement came Thursday, a day after the city said it would close public areas in city of Las Vegas facilities.
Las Vegas has closed public facilities during the coronavirus emergency, but City Manager Scott Adams says city employees are still on the job during the crisis.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman on Wednesday asked Gov. Steve Sisolak to significantly shorten 30-day statewide closures on nonessential businesses over concern for affected workers.
City and county officials in all local jurisdictions have declared states of emergency to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, which grant local governments additional powers.
In response to the coronavirus outbreak, hand sanitizer will be available as people enter the Las Vegas City Council chambers, where attendees will be asked to sit at least six feet apart.
According to a community announcement online, Summerlin has closed playgrounds and canceled its annual egg hunt that was scheduled for April 4.
“My hope is that the private industry rises to the top, that they’re allowed to stay open and take care of these families that are paycheck to paycheck,” the mayor said.
The Clark County Commission and Las Vegas City Council jointly met to deliberate plans for the future of a medical and academic hub where both governments say they have made significant investments.
Five senior centers in Las Vegas, and part of a community center that serves seniors, will close indefinitely beginning Saturday, city officials announced Friday.
“If anybody wanted to take a vacation now, because there’s no place to go, it should be here,” Goodman said in a lengthy interview with the Review-Journal. “It should be here and I can’t believe we’re not being more proactive.”
Former Las Vegas Councilman Bob Beers said he knew the city was right in approving development on the Badlands golf course, one day after a three-judge Supreme Court panel affirmed the city’s action.
